Along with ian schrager, he revolutionized accommodations away from home and set the trend for designer hotels in the 1990s. one of starck?s most recent projects was the Mama Shelter, an innovative hotel that combines his experience in design with cutting-edge technology while offering affordable prices, from 80 euros a night. Meanwhile, Le royal-Monceau, a traditional hotel in the 8th arrondissement, is currently being entirely refurbished by starck to appeal to modern tastes. the designer took advantage of the opportunity to throw a decidedly unconventional bash: the demolition party. Guests armed with axes and heavy mallets knocked down the inside of the hotel, originally designed by leading interior designer Jacques Garcia, whose resumé includes the Hôtel Costes and various private mansions around paris. yet hotels are only the beginning for starck. Another of the designer?s projects worth a visit is the Maison Baccarat, a gallery-museum for the renowned house that has supplied crystal to europe?s royal families since the 19th century, and of course to the palais de l?Élysée, residence and cabinet of the French president. the mansion?s display showcases the brand?s most impressive pieces and even puts them to use in the
